#UGDecides: We will not conform to the ruling of the Judicial Board- Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council has announced that it will not conform to the ruling and directives by the SRC Judicial Board.

A statement signed by the EC Chairperson, Henry Ackon indicated that they are waiting for the findings and recommendations from the Adhoc committee.

“The Chairperson of the above mentioned Commission wishes to bring to the attention of the University community that it is still waiting to be served with the report from the Adhoc Committee set up by the Dean Of Student Affairs to investigate the various petitions concerning the 2021 SRC run-off elections,” the statement revealed.

The Commission explained that as of the time that the petitions were filed, the Judicial Board did not exist, for this reason; it will not adhere to the Verdict by the Judicial Board on Friday, December 10, 2021.

The Commission backed this claims with a statement from the University of Ghana, Office of The Legal Counsel.

“To this end, taking into cognizance the non-existence of the SRC Judicial Board according to the University’s Legal Counsel through the Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor (ASA), the commission serves notice to the University community that it will not conform to the Ruling and directives by the SRC Judicial Board,” the statement added.

The statement further disclosed that until the Adhoc committee has presented their findings, the Electoral Commission still keep in record the results it declared on Monday, November 1, 2021.

“Conclusively, the Commission encourage all relevant stakeholders to remain calm and anticipate the outcome of the Committee’s report- to determine the way forward concerning the 2021 SRC run-off elections. Until this is realized, the Commission want to reiterate that as of today, Prince Asumadu and Wisdom Ndukwe remain the SRC President-Elect and Vice President-Elect per the final declaration by the Chairperson of the Commission on 1st November 2021,” the statement said.
