The 63 year old assumes his new role in Manchester after leaving his role as Head of Sports and Development at Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow.

Ralph’s contract will see him lead the first team as interim coach until June where the club finds a permanent coach but will remain at the club for two years performing consultancy roles.

The 39-year old takes charge of the team from Micheal Carrick who was in temporary charge of the team against Manchester United’s 2-0 over Villarreal in the Champions League and a 1-1 draw with Chelsea over the weekend in the Premier League.

Carrick will however remain at the touchline for Thursday’s home fixture against Arsenal if Rangnick’s work permit is not finalised.

Ralph Rangnick speaking to Manchester United’s website said, “I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club.

“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.

“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”
