Five executives of the Accra College of Education Students’ Representative Council (SRC) have resigned over the what they described as ‘a regular’ lawlessness, dictatorship and misappropriation of students funds by the SRC President.
According to the executives, these ‘unprofessional and undemocratic behaviors’ of the President, Bright Bosomtwe are major impedance to the effective discharge of their mandates as students’ leaders in the school.
The executives include the SRC Vice President, Mercy Obuor Korkor; deputy Secretary, Eunice Osei; deputy organizer, Enoch Apertorgbor; Public Relations Manager, Ebenezer Danso and Women’s commissioner, Abigail Amponsah.
A statement dated Novermber 20, 2021, noted that the ‘misconducts’ of the President brought consistent and unnecessary disruptions to the normal and proper administration of the Students’ Representative Council.
“Purely on the basis of professionalism, we endured all those in the past, with hopes of seeing improvement along the way but to no avail. To this end, we can boldly say no significant improvement has been recorded, as far as lawlessness, dictatorship and misappropriation of students funds are being masterminded by the SRC president on regular basis” the statement revealed,” part of the statement reads.
In the three-page resignation letter to the General Assembly and the university community, the five executives argued the SRC president individually awarded a contract for the partioning a single classroom which will serve as SRC offices for 134,370.00 Ghana Cedis.
“When asked, the President in his response to why he single-handedly masterminded the awarding of the said contract emphatically said, ‘he is personally not using the newly-approved constitution of the SRC and for that matter, he does not recognize the existence of any General Assembly nor the decision-making structures of the SRC to make consultations,’ The executives stated.
The five executives described as unfortunate the manner in which the SRC President disregarded the General Assembly while awarding the contract.
They further released that the Management of the Accra College of Education overruled all genuine efforts to address the aforementioned issues following resolution proposal sent to the General Assembly and the Executive Council.
