Why does WAEC fail some candidates in WASSCE?

-

A concerned student has asked us why the West African Examinations Council fail some candidates in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)

Ghanaian candidates have been accusing the Council of their failure in examinations it conducts. According to them WAEC intentionally fails them in other for them to register for the Private Examination known as Nov/Dec.

Some even say “candidates failure is the success of the West African Examinations Council, a claim the Examinations Council had denied.

The non-profit-making organization (WAEC) in a blog post sighted by Georgeweb.org on its website explaining why candidates fail said: “WAEC as an institution does not pass any candidate nor fail as some students claims”.

According to the Council, the candidates pass or fail on their own and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) only certifies them accordingly.

It said the purpose of the WAEC examination is to grade candidates according to their performance “those who pass are graded as such and so also are those who fail, we are not interested in any body’s failure”, it added
