The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has expressed gratitude following the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party’s promise to include Private schools in the Free SHS programme.
The former Education Minister, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang giving highlights of the NDC 2020 manifesto said the next Mahama administration will inlcude private schools in the Free Senior High School programme.
The Akufo-Addo led government implemented the Free SHS policy in September 2017 for successful BECE graduates from public and private Junior High Schools (JHSs) to continue their education in only various public Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country with no fee-paying.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) during the school placement does not place candidates into any Private Senior High School, such schools have been exempted from government’s Senior High School placement.
But, the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as part of efforts to better the Free Senior High School programme has promised to include all Private Senior High Schools in the country to the programme.
The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) in line with NDC government in social media post sighted by Georgeweb.org said: “Private schools welcome any policy that would involve the sector in contributing our quota to the development of Educational Delivery in Ghana”.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) believes including private schools in the Free SHS programme is the best solution to the disturbing double-track system where students are grouped into Gold and Green tracks.
