A Deputy Information Minister, Pius Hadzide has urged the media to be mindful of their reportage on the locally transmitted coronavirus cases in schools as misinformation concerning the cases causes fear and panic.
“Some of the media reports are misleading and only cause fear and panic in parents”.
Pius Hadzide in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show monitored by Georgeweb.org said “The media is privileged to information but needs to be a little more analytical on these matters than spreading panic and misinformation amongst the public and parents.
According to the government spokesperson, there has been a lot of misinformation causing fear and panic. “Some of the media reports are misleading and only cause fear and panic in parents”.
“We are aware that parents will be concerned about their wards. However, some media houses are portraying the issue in a way that causes fear and panic and that makes parents anxious and apprehensive”.
The Deputy Information Minister further assured that the Akufo-Addo government had heard the calls of parents and will do all they can to ensure the students are safe.
“The government has heard the pleas of the Parent Teachers Association and is open to views of everyone but there will be a lot of more understanding if patience is exercised for the government to provide some explanations to them,” he said
The spokesperson said he is of the believe that through engagements and sober reflection they will come to an understanding.
