As we wait for President Akufo-Addo to announce the official school reopening date this year, a close source has said Junior High schools are likely to run 2-semester academic year system instead of the usual 3-term.
This comes after a relevant stakeholder in the education sector told Educationweb.com.gh students will return to school on January 19, 2021, to commence the 2021/2022 academic year. The government is yet to confirm.
The source noted the 2-semester academic year system will enable teachers to get more contact hours for teaching to recover loss contact time amid the outbreak of the locally transmitted coronavirus
“We will likely switch from the 3-term to a two-semester academic year system for JHS, commencing January 2021, to enable more contact time for teaching”, it stated.
It added that students may end up having 44 weeks of schooling instead of the usual 36 weeks depending on the presumed school reopening date.
President Akufo-Addo in his first televised address to the nation on Sunday, March 14, 2020, directed for the closure of all schools in the country as part of measures to slow the spread of the virus that has claimed many lives.
