It’s ‘senseless’ to review Free SHS – Bawumia to Mahama

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has downplayed the flagbearer of opposition NDC party’s comment that he will review the Free SHS implemented by the Akufo-Addo government.
Currently, the first batch of the Free SHS beneficiaries are writing the WASSCE for School candidates scheduled to end September 5, 2020.
Former President John Mahama has said the Free SHS which has benefited 1.2 million children was helpful but he will consider a review of the policy when elected as the country’s President in 2021.
According to Mr John Mahama, he will within the first 90 days of office call for arrangements of a very broad stakeholder and consultative meeting on the way forward for a better Free SeniorHigh School (Free SHS).
But, the Vice-President speaking in an interview on Peace FM monitored by Georgeweb.org described the NDC flagbearer’s comment as ” “senseless”.
In the view of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, it would be better for the former President to category state what he will do with regard to his “review” of the free SHS programme but not to make a general statement.
“You say you’ll review it. It doesn’t make sense,” he said in an exclusive interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’.
According to him, Mr John Dramani Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) ” will say anything that they think they should say to try and win elections”.
