COVID-19: Cancel 2019/2020 academic calendar – Franklin Cudjoe urges Gov’t

The President of IMANI-Africa, Franklin Cudjoe following the sudden increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths has petitioned the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to cancel the 2019/2020 academic calendar.

In the view of him, the reopening of schools for the three batches of final year students in the country despite the surge in COVID-19 cases was not a decision at the right direction.

The IMANI President in a Facebook post sighted by Georgweb.org an hour ago said “I think it is now not a good decision to open schools. I strongly urge the Minister of Education to recall all students and cancel the academic year”.

His comments follow the shocking demise of the Forestry Commission Boss, Kweku Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, according to media report the late Sir John died of the global pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister is awaiting his results at the UGMC after running several tests for the novel coronavirus that has of the time writing this post killed 117 people in the country.
