On several occasions, we have seen students work in silence especially during a class test or term exams, a survey conducted by Teacher Tapp, the Ghana Education Service (GES) approved 100% free daily CPC app has revealed that 97% of teachers across Ghana feel confident enough in their classroom management to get their students to work silence.
Although group work and collaborative learning are important and interesting but it is also valuable for students to have time to concentrate on working individually and silently.
However this can be a challenge, especially in large classes of over 50 students with only one teacher, the truth is there are instances where a teacher handles more than the estimated 50 students in a class.
The Teacher Tapp survey also disclosed that despite the majority of teachers feel confident in calling silence in their classrooms still some teachers struggle to do so.
A public school teacher suggested in the survey for the Government of Ghana to set up a knowledge exchange scheme for teachers who are confident with their classroom management to share effective practice with those who need help.
