We know it’s every candidate or graduate’s wish to get his or her first choice of school during the computerised school selection placement (CSSPS) but as the saying goes ‘wishes are not horses for us to ride’.
The real problem is the implementation of the computerised school selection placement has made it difficult for the majority of BECE graduates to get their first choice of school, preferably ‘Category A’ Senior High School.
A study we conducted indicated only 40 per cent of final year Junior High School students consults their parents and guardians in the school selection process, while the remaining 60 select their school base on friends choice.
That is the consequences of what we see and hear after school placement have been released by the Ghana Education Service. We do not want that to happen this year and we know you as a student do not want that either.
How to get your school of choice during 2020 SHS placement
- Consult your parents and guardians: Georgeweb.org recommends that all BECE candidates involve their parents or guardians and even if possible a responsible Senior High School or tertiary graduate to assist in the Senior high School (SHS) school selection processes.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) urges parents and guardians to take keen interest in the selection of schools processes to ensure a smooth Senior High School (SHS) placement for their ward.
2. Join the sensitization exercise: The Ghana Education Service has announced to start the 2020/2021 sensitization and guidelines for 2020 school selection into Senior High Schools on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
The sensitization exercise for this year will be in-depth as compared to the previous one because the Education Service has said Infographics, shorts videos in nine Ghanaian languages, flyers and officers will be in all schools to embark on the sensitization drive.
The officers will explain the selection processes and how candidates can text a short code and confirm their school choices before actual Placement.
