Beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation module under the Ministry of Forestry have made known plans to embark on a nationwide strike over unpaid salaries.

In a circular issued on Monday, May 3, 2021, the affected workers hinted that the demonstration is slated for Friday May 7, 2021 in Accra.

Earlier, an aggrieved supervisor, Bossman Adu-Twum Anin, who works under the module with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) revealed that the agency owes them in excess of five (5) months’ allowance.

According to him, some oof them haven’t been paid since December 2020.

It would be recalled that the group threatened to embark on a similar exercise in 2020 over unpaid allowances whiles also demanding for better working conditions.

Additionally, the group has notified its membership to proceed on a sit-down indefinite industrial strike following their demonstration that is scheduled to take place on Friday.

In line with the NPP’s 2016 manifesto commitment of reforestation, forest rehabilitation, and forest protection activities, the Youth in Afforestation Programme was launched on August 13, 2018, at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi.

It is an initiative to help reduce the rate of youth unemployment while building more trees.

Over 20,000 youth were part of the beneficiaries of the launch.

This is to inform all Youth in Afforestation Beneficiaries in all regions across Ghana that, Our Demonstration is coming off Friday 7th May, 2021 at Accra.

We will first meet at Obra Spot before hitting the streets of Accra at exactly 7:00 am.

We are doing this once and for all please all should endeavor to be present! Come with your uniforms and be ready to observe all covid protocols.

As we embark on this Nationwide Demonstration, all those who won’t make it should sit home! We are not going to work until further notice!
