Police arrest Bright SHS proprietor for allegedly inciting students
The Ghana Police Service has arrested Bright Amponsah, the proprietor of Bright Senior High School (SHS) at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region for instigating an attack on an Invigilator and a reporter with the Daily Graphic.
According to media reports, final year students of the private school on Thursday protested against the officials of WAEC supervising the conduct of the examination and a reporter with the Daily Graphic, Mr Emmanuel Pacome Damalie.
The candidates got angry after the external invigilator resisted their attempts to cheat in the examination, hence their act of violence.
Instigation
Information available to GeorgeWeb indicates the proprietor of the school, Mr Bright Amponsah encouraged the students to assault the journalist who had gone to the school to observe the situation following a demonstration by the students.
According to the Newspaper, the notorious students threw stones and chased their journalist away with stick as they shouted “thief, thief”. It added that they seized his mobile phone and bag subjecting him to server beatings
Compromise
Mr Mensah speaking to the Newspaper said the proprietor of the school from the very day of the commencement of the examination had wanted to bribe him but he refused.
According to him, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has arranged for students to write the rest of their examination at the Ofori Panin SHS, also in Kukurantumi.
He recounted that Bright Senior High School (SHS) had over the years engaged in examination malpractices which made the non-profit-making organization deploy many external invigilators to strictly adhere to the supervise the conduct of the examination.
Against this backdrop, the police have reportedly arrested him for encouraging his students to disturb the conduct of the national examination and assaulting representatives of the Examination Council supervising the test.
