Nurses, Midwives begin nationwide strike today

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has announced its members will on today Monday, September 21, 2020, commenced a nationwide strike over their service conditions.
The leadership of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) on September 3, 2020, disclosed its Conditions of a Service negotiation meeting with central government was not conclusive.
It further said the government representatives by mid September is expected to further engage the GRNMA and its Allied Associations to conclude discussions on the Non-Core Category 2 & 3 allowances.
But, after the government’s failure to accept their demand for improved conditions of service, the GRNMA has advised its members across the country to suspend their service to the nation until further notice.
Meanwhile, an Accra High Court on Friday granted an interlocutory injunction application by the National Labour Commission against the strike.

The injunction of the court presided by Justice Frank Aboagye Rockson is to stop the health workers from their industrial action.
