Ghana’s 2021 best speller, Naa Koshie Manyo-Plange after emerging as the winner of 2021 The Spelling Bee competition will represent the Republic of Ghana in the 2021 Scripps Spelling Bee scheduled for June 12, 2021.
The 11-year-old student of the Accra-based Roman Ridge School Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 12, 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. ET (2:00 pm-10:30 pm GMT) will make her first appearance at the World’s most watched spelling program.
“The Scripps National Spelling Bee returns this year with 209 spellers from across the U.S. and around the globe, all vying for the championship trophy,” the organizers announced in a blog post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh.
According to the organizers, this year’s edition of the spelling program amid the outbreak of covid-19 will be conducted virtually except for the finals that will be hosted in-person at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
“Beginning June 12, spellers will compete virtually in the first three rounds of competition: the Preliminaries, Quarterfinals and Semifinals. The top 10-12 spellers will join us for the in-person Finals on July 8 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort,” Scripps stated in a blog post.
Aside from the 50 American states, there are at least 5 other countries and territories participating in the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee in the United States of America this year.
Ghana remains the only participating African country in the 2021 Scripps National spelling Bee with Naa Koshie Manyo-Plange of the Roman Ridge School representing the nation at the 2021 Scripps Bee.
