Gov’t to provide hot meals to JHS pupils, Staff
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed the Gender Ministry to make arrangements to serve all final year Junior High School (JHS) students and staff with hot meals each day from August 24 until the end of the 2020 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
The President of the Republic in his 15th televised nation’s address monitored by Georgeweb.org said the government as part of efforts to ensure a strict observance the COVID-19 safety protocols in Junior High Schools (JHSs) have tasked the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to from August 24 provide ‘hot’ meals to the 584,000 BECE candidates and the about 146,000 staff in the country.
President Akufo-Addo indicated that each student and staff in both private and public Junior High Schools (JHSs) across the country would be served at least one hot meal a day until the ending date of the 2020 edition of BECE.
He noted that his instruction to the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection follows reports that some final year JHS students in the country were going hungry in complying with the outlined coronavirus safety protocols, hence the preparation to feed them once a day from Monday to Friday in various JHSs across the country until they end their exams.
His Excellency in one of his nation’s address announced for schools to be reopened to final year students in the country for them to continue with academic activities and prepare to sit for their final examinations.
All final year Junior High School (JHS) students following the President’s directive had returned to school to complete the 2019/2020 academic year and also prepare to sit for their final examination in mid-September.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in his address disclosed that 584,000 final year students from both private and public Junior High schools (JHSs) in the country will from September 14, 2020, partake the forthcoming 2020 BECE.
Akufo-Addo furthered that about 146,000 staff are in various Junior High Schools (JHSs) across the country are tirelessly helping the prospective 2020 BECE candidates in their preparation towards the upcoming examination which will qualify them to next stage of education (Senior High School).
The management of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection under the auspices of the Government of Ghana (GoG) are yet to announce their plans towards the President’s instruction to ensure all the final year JHS students and staff currently in school are served with hot meals each day until September 18, 2020.
