Gov’t donates new Hyundai buses to 100 Senior High Schools
The Akufo-Addo government Thursday, July 30, 2020, donated brand new Hyundai buses to at least 100 Senior High Schools selected from the North Eastern, Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Oti, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
The buses were presented to the 100 beneficiary Senior High Schools (SHSs) on behalf of the Ministry of Education by the Vice President of the Republic, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia who represented His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo.
In attendance at the short ceremony at the forecourt of Parliament House in Accra was the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwaa, directors of both the Ministry and the GES as well as heads of agencies under the Ministry.
The Vice President in his address said the Akufo-Addo government believes that the significant educational reforms that have been rolled out since 2017 will come to nothing if they do not provide the necessary logistical support for our schools to run effectively as they deliver their mandate for the Ghanaian child.
“Our schools have various challenges in the discharge of their administrative functions, and these vehicles, I am sure, will go a long way to help smooth these”, he noted.
The 100 buses are the first batch of 350 buses that have been procured by the Akufo-Addo government to support the day to day administration of Senior high schools in the country.
