NSMQ 2021: NUGS gives GH¢1,000 to Keta SHTS Francisca Lamini

Francisca Lamini, a female contestant and student of the Keta Senior High Technical School who participated in the final stage of the just ended 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz has received an amount of GH¢1,000 as a gift.

The donation from the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) secretary for Women Development, Ohemaah Bediako, follows her excellent performance in the Science and Mathematics quiz competition on Friday.

Being the only female contestant in the final stage, she demonstrated her intelligence in a beautiful style to shine the strength the feminine gender also possesses. Francisca has since received lots of praises across the country.

Presenting the GH¢1,000 gift to Keta SHTS Lamini, the NUGS Secretary for women development said “Francisca represents hope for the girl-child and proves that the woman is also capable to make an impact in society.

“Her performance on Friday at KNUST, Geat Hall during the NSMQ contest sends a strong message to her colleague girls that they can also do it should they believe and take their studies serious,” the Women Secretary added.

Kumasi-based Prempeh College after several rounds in the finals of the Science and Mathematics quiz beat Presbyterian Boys Secondary School and Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) to win this year’s competition.

Prempeh College on Friday, November 26, 2021, secured 53 points while the Legon-based Presbyterian School had 49 points and Keta SHTS, the first school from the Volta Region to make it to the final, had 30 points.

This is the fifth time the Ashanti Region-based Senior High School has won the Science and Mathematics quiz. They were crowned winners of the PrimeTime sponsored competition in 1994, 1996, 2015 and later in 2017.

As the ultimate winner of the quiz, Prempeh College took home the coveted trophy and a cash of GH¢80,000. GH¢40,000 would go to the school while the teachers and the contestants would share the rest GH¢20,000.00 each.

A total of 119 Senior High Schools (SHSs) from the 16 Regions of the country commenced the preliminary stage divided into 8 Regions and Zones of this year’s edition of the popular National Science and Maths Quiz.

The preliminary stage commenced from October 26, 2021, to November 5, 2021. Balloting for the NSMQ preliminaries also took place on the same date and One-Eighth stage to semifinals from November 12, 2021, to November 23, 2021.
