A Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has disclosed that at least 648 students of the Accra Girls SHS have been identified as having contact with some eight persons who tested positive for COVID-19.
The Deputy Education Minister revealed in a press conference organized by the Information Minister on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
According to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the 648 contacts identified “have been tested”.
On Sunday, July 5, 2020, Georgeweb.org reported that six students of the Accra Girls SHS have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, later yesterday July 6, 2020, a teacher and his spouse reportedly tested positive for the disease bringing the total cases in the school to eight.
Following this unexpected situation, some parents yesterday morning stormed the school to withdraw their wards from the school as saying “students lives matter”.
However, Osei Yaw Adutwum at the press briefing assured the general public particularly parents that the situation is under control.
He furthered that the services of counselors have been called for to help boost the confidence of the students. Thereby, creating a conducive teaching and learning environment.
“We understand that, in the midst of all the anxiety, it is difficult for students to focus on studies, but counselors working things out to get the students back on track to continue with their preparations ahead of the 2020 WASSCE for school candidates”, Dr. Adutwum said.
