The Municipal Director of Education for Asante Akim Central, Mrs. Patricia Sarpong has disclosed that 3 students of Wesley High Senior High School (SHS) have recovered from the locally transmitted COVID-19 after testing positive.
Mrs. Patricia Sarpong announced this improvement during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a three-unit classroom block for five basic schools in the area by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim Central, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi.
The Municipal Director of Education in a brief interview with Adom News monitored by Georgeweb.org said 3 students of Wesley High Senior High School have fully recovered from the virus and are fit to sit for the 2020 WASSCE for School Candidates.
She however registered disagreement with the pressure groups, stakeholders, and the Minority NDC Caucus in Parliament calling for the closure of schools amid reported coronavirus cases in some schools.
In her view, since the final year students are left with a few weeks to sit and finish with their much-awaited WASSCE exams, there is a need for them to be in school and write for once.
A Deputy Ranking Member of the Education Committee in Parliament, on behalf of the Minority, petitioned the Government of Ghana to conduct mass testing of students in schools with cases of the novel virus.
He speaking at a press conference at Parliament House questioned the government zeal to keep final year students in school for them to mandatory write their final year examination despite increase in coronavirus cases.
“The situations in the schools not do augur well for effective teaching and learning”, Dr. Apaak said.
But some people are of the view that the novel disease has come to stay and that we only need to observe the safety protocols to safeguard ourselves from the locally transmitted disease.
