Education, be it formal or informal plays a vital role in shaping an individual. It provides the tools for reasoning through various life situations, individual enlightenment and creates the pathway for a better and balanced future. Education is the gateway to endless possibilities and introduces us to the world around us.
Through education, we get to know more about ourselves and the courses we believe in and are passionate about. We are also able to align our skills and capabilities to vast career options and are equipped with the right mindset and steps to venture into the desired career path, one of which is politics.
In this article, we take a look at the educational background of Mavis Hawa Koomson, Ursula Owusu, and Sarah Adwoa Safo. We’ll get to know the academic path each of them took till their entry into politics.
Mavis Hawa Koomson
She is a native of Salaga in the Northern Region and was born on 3rd February 1966. She has a diploma and a bachelor’s degree in Basic Education from the University Education in 2011. She has a masters, postgraduate diploma in public administration (CPA), and a postgraduate diploma in public administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration(GIMPA).
HON. MRS. MAVIS HAWA KOOMSON is the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD) and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East Constituency. She has won the parliamentary seat for her constituency in every election since 2012.
She was born on 20 October 1964. She hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region. Owusu-Ekuful attended Labone Senior High School and proceeded to Mfantisman Girls Secondary School to have her sixth form education.
She continued her education at the University of Ghana and the Ghana School Of Law where she obtained an LLB. She was called to the bar in 1990. She has attended courses including one at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, where she obtained a Masters in Conflict, Peace, and Security.
Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP), is the Minister for Communications of and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency within the Greater Accra Region in Ghana.
Sarah Adwoa Safo
She was born on 28 December 1981.]She was home-tutored and wrote and passed her GCE A’ Level in 1998. She attended the University of Ghana Faculty of Law where she obtained a Bachelor of Law (L.L.B.) degree in 2002.
She continued to the Ghana School of Law and was called to the Bar in October 2004 at the age of 22. She holds an LLM from George Washington University. She’s the MP for Dome Kwabenya Constituency.
