Jordan Belfort Early Life And Biography

Jordan Belfort, born Jordan Ross Belfort, was born in The Bronx, New York, on July 9, 1962, to his parents, Max and Leah, both accountants. Belford was raised in Bayside, Queens, in a Jewish family. Whiles in college, he and his close friends made $20,000 selling Italian ice from coolers to people on the beach during the summer between high school and college.

Belfort graduated from American University with a degree in biology and was later enrolled in dental school at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. After the first day of classes, the dean of the school said a quote that sounded weird to him:

“The golden age of dentistry is over. If you’re here simply because you’re looking to make a lot of money, you’re in the wrong place.”

How He Started His Career

Jordan Belfort started his career as a salesperson by selling seafood and meat door-to-door on Long Island, New York. His sales business became so successful that he even employed several people and sold 5000 pounds of fish and meat per week.

In 1987, he decided to make big in as a clerk, so he became a stockbroker. Belfort was caught with the idea of making the kind of money the more senior stockbrokers are making.

So he tried working with several financial firms, absorbing all the knowledge he could to help him as the best salesperson. He improved his sales pitch and, in 1989, resolved to start his firm. Jordan Belfort launched his firm, Stratton Oakmont, in the 1990s.

He became notorious for his role in duping millions of dollars from investors. Jordan and his work ally Danny Porush washed in cash using a “pump and dump” scheme. His brokers helped to inflate the stocks prices, and Stratton Oakmont would sell off its holdings in these stocks at a useful earning.

However, the National Association of Securities Dealers was on to Belfort and Stratton Oakmont. The organization was closely examining the firm’s transactions. Then, in December 1996, the National Association of Securities Dealers kicked Stratton Oakmont out of its membership, and the firm went out of business.

Jordan Belfort was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $110 million in 2003. He served 22 months in jail. One of the people in jail prompted Belfort to write about his adventures. After his life in prison, he published his autobiography “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Today, Jordan Belfort is serving as a motivational speaker worldwide, talking about his way to success. He runs his own company, which provides market straight line training and sales training.
