Ghana Library Authority launches GH¢10m endowment fund

The Ghana Library Authority (GHLA) on October 12, 2020, at its 70th Anniversary launched a GH¢10 million endowment fund to support the effective running and growth of public libraries in the country.
The Library Authority (GHLA) anniversary was on the theme “70 years of transforming minds through libraries”.
The GH¢10 million endowment fund dubbed the “Public Library Endowment Fund”, received seed money of GH¢3million from the government with the rest expected to be mobilised from the public.
The Authority at the ceremony held in Accra also inaugurated the Accra Central Library Conference Facility which has a 200 seating-capacity which would be rented out to generate income to support of all libraries.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh in his address noted at the time he resumed office as the Minister of Education, the GhLA was in a very bad shape in terms of infrastructure, book stock, logistics, automation and many more.
“However in under four years the GhLA has seen a truly remarkable improvement in every aspect of its mandate, thanks to the leadership of its board and management”, the Education Minister added.

The Manhyia South MP also commended the Governing Board members of the Ghana Library Authority for their hard work in connecting Ghanaians to knowledge resources to help make this nation a reading nation.
