According to Ghana’s Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO, the Akufo-Addo led government has in four (4) years employed over 24,000 graduate teachers in the country.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh announced the figure speaking in an interview with Mr Kwaku Annan, the host of NET2’s ‘Seat Show’, on Monday, September 21, 2020, monitored by Georgeweb.org.

Commenting on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party 2020 manifesto, the Minister of Education indicated the John Mahama administration cancelled the teacher’s responsibility allowance.

The Education Minister furthered the NDC party in their 2020 manifesto has indicated to in their next term of office reinstate the teacher’s responsibility allowance they some time ago cancelled.

According to Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former President, John Dramani Mahama in four years did not employ any graduate teacher, with reasons that the country at that time had no money to pay newly recruited graduate teachers which resulted to unemployed graduate Association.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Manhyia South speaking further said the Akufo-Addo government in four years now has employed more than 24,000 graduate teachers in the country and will do more this year.

The Minister added that during the implementation of the double-track system the government employed 8,000 graduate teachers. NAPO however, admitted that the government can not employ all graduate teachers.

According to Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government will this year employ 6,500 graduate teachers.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has disclosed to recruit 16,500 trained teachers who completed College of Education last year.
