Unfortunately, students of the University of Ghana (UG) will not vote this year to elect new executives for its Students Representative Council, the spokesperson of the General Assembly of the SRC has said.
According to the spokesperson, the General Assembly has called for Article 25 of the SRC constitution, which states what must be done when it is seen that circumstances will not permit to hold elections in a particular academic year.
The SRC therefore in line with Article 25 of the constitution will appoint interim SRC leaders to lead the Council for the 2020/2021 academic year.
Emmanuel Owusu Ampem, the speaker of the General Assembly in an interview on the Leadership Focus show monitored by Georgeweb.org announced that the election for 2020 has been canceled.
He explained that the annulment of the election was the transitional roadmap they presented to the Dean of Students.
“The roadmap has been provided that we shall invoke article 25, and we shall follow the dictates of the Constitution. That has been done and that is what we are following,” he stated on Sunday, June 28, 2020.
Appointed interim President‘s
Following the petitioned of Article 25 of the constitution, Junior Common Room president of the Akuafo Hall, Nana Amo Ntow Fianko has been appointed as the acting SRC president
Subsequently, Mensah Sarbah Hall JCR Secretary, Ruby Nkansah has also been appointed as acting General Secretary.
Isaac Agyemang, the current SRC President announced these newly appointments, an official communique is yet to be released.
