The Central UDS Students Representative Council’s President, Christopher Otoo in a communiqué sighted by Georgeweb.org indicated the reduction is to ease the burden on parents and students who pay fees on their own.
An excerpt of the communiqué reads “by this communiqué, without any display of ostentation, mention must be made that successfully, the interest of respected colleagues have been drummed collectively by leadership, and management without resentment has listened to our plea”
The University’s academic fees reduction comes after the SRC petitioned the UDS school authorities to consider the current situation and the negative impact of the locally transmitted coronavirus on the country’s economy.
The SRC announcing the reduction said “Appropriately the fee for the 2020/2021 academic year has been reduced by 16%. This became necessary because of the emergence of COVID-19 how it affected and continue to affect the economy.
It added that” We expect that this reduction will mitigate the burden on parents and some junior members who pay their fees”.
