An Educational-oriented civil society group has urged the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to be transparent in the newly trained teachers postings for it shall audit the process in June 2021.
The Africa Education Watch notice comes after the Ghana Education Service announced it has released appointment letters of graduates who completed College of Education in 2017-2019 and passed teacher licensure.
According to the Civil society group, it is aware that only 2.5% of the newly recruited 16,000 teachers were posted to Accra and close to 50% to the five Northern Regions with the highest Pupil Trained Teacher Ratio.
It in an open letter to the Director-General of GES, Kwasi Opoku Amankwa said “we are aware of the ongoing skirmishes (some political) by many newly posted teachers to change postings from the North to the South”.
The Watch further urged the Education Service to be transparent in the newly trained teachers postings it shall audit the postings next year June” adding that “should we detect any re-posting, we wouldn’t hesitate to publish it”
