Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of efforts to ensure students comply with the outlined COVID-19 protocols in school has extended the free hot meal each day to second-year students in both public and private Junior High School (JHS) across the country.
President Nana Akufo-Addo announced this in his 16th televised address to the nation monitored by Georgeweb.org on August 30, 2020 when he was updating Ghanaians on measures taken by the central government to slow and curb the spread of the global coronavirus pandemic.
His Excellency after the temporal closure of schools amid the novel virus, in his 16th nation’s address, announced for Junior and Senior High School students to return to school on October 5 to December 14, 2020, for 10-week intensive teaching and learning to complete their academic year and write for their end of term examination.
Meanwhile, Nana Akufo-Addo in his 15th address to the citizenry instructed the Gender Ministry to ensure staff and final year Junior High School students preparing for the upcoming BECE are served with one hot meal each day until the end of their final examination on September 18, 2020/
According to him, his decision to feed the prospective candidates follows reports that some students were going hungry as a result of complying to the coronavirus safety protocols in various schools.
