WASSCE: Tweneboa Kodua SHS students destroy school properties over strict invigilation

Some aggrieved final year students of the Kumawu-based Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region after helpless in writing the 2020 WASSCE Integrated Science Paper on August 3, 2020, have reportedly destroyed the school’s properties.
The candidate’s action follows the strictness of invigilators in the examination hall during the conduct of the WASSCE Integrated Science Paper on Monday, August 3, 2020.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Sekyere Kumawu, Mr Addai Agyekum, confirming the incident in an interview with Kumasi FM monitored by GeorgeWeb.org said: “I learned there were misunderstandings between the students and the teachers, but I was able to move in quickly and resolved the matter”.
According to Mr Addai Agyekum, the prospective candidates threatened to boycott the second paper because they thought the atmosphere was quite intimidating to them, consequently accusing the headmaster of being too strict.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) furthered that he spoke to the invigilators to do their work in a very friendly atmosphere but “without sacrificing legitimate discipline.”.
A source in the school told GeorgeWeb the angry WASSCE candidates went to the school’s dining hall and destroyed properties belonging to the school including their dining.
In a short video sighted by Georgeweb.org, a female student is heard saying “we have destroyed the properties in the dining hall, they should come and take their food, nobody will eat the food, they want us to fail“, she said in twi.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) in statement admonished persons associated with the conduct of the examination including Regional/District Directors, supervisors and invigilators to ensure the 2020 WASSCE for School Candidate is malpractice free examination.
