Prospective students in various levels will be promoted to the next stage when schools fully reopen in the next academic year starting January 2021, the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has said.
President Akufo-Addo following the outbreak of the global pandemic on Sunday March 15 this directed for the closure of all schools nationwide as part of measures to slow and curb the locally transmitted coronavirus.
However, Nana Akufo-Addo in one of his nation’s address announced for second-year students in Junior and Senior High School to return to school from October 5, 2020 until they vacation on December 14, 2020.
His Excellency indicated that schools would reopen for learners in Kindergarten, Primary, first-year Junior and Senior High School in January 2021 to begin the 2020/2021 academic year.
Mr Kwabena Tandoh speaking in an interview with Daniel Dadzie on JoyNews monitored by Georgeweb.org disclosed that all students will be promoted to their respective levels when schools resume in January 2021.
The Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access said the promotion has become necessary in other not to go against UNICEF’s policy on Right Age Enrollment where students are enrolled with their right ages.
“The Ghana Education Service (GES) is working UNICEF to push right age enrollment. So, if we do that, we would get a lot of children in the back. so, everybody will be promoted in January 2021”, the GES official stated
