Staff of SDD UBIDS and CKT-UTAS suspend strike as agreement on migration of staff onto the CAGD payroll (IPPD2) has been reached.
On Monday, 2 of August, 2021, workers Union of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), and CKT University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS), declared an industrial strike over sneaky move by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to migrate staff of SDD-UBIDS and CKT University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) onto the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) payroll (IPPD2).
According to them, the indefinite strike was necessitated on the inability of government to provide favourable response on the road map for payment of their salaries from August, 2021 onwards and halting the intended unilateral migration process pending the final resolution of the matter by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
The members of the Union were; University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU).
In a document sighted by georgeweb.org, the Ministry of Education, GTEC, CAGD and the two University institutions have come into an agreement and therefore a need to call off the strike.
In the meeting with the Minister of Education, GTEC, Controller and Accountant General Department and leaders of worker unions of SDD-UBIDS and CKT-UTAS on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the Ministry of Education, it was agreed as follows;
- 1. The Hon. Minister assured all stakeholders that he will facilitate the processes to ensure that all the agreements are met before the migration of the two Universities with all other public Universities.
- 2. That the staff of SDD-UBIDS and CKT-UTAS will continue to receive their salaries through UDS untill the conditions precedent to the migration as agreed by the National Union leaders, GTEC and CAGD are met.
- 3. GTEC is to write to the two Universities to give them their codes for receiving subventions to process their own payrolls.
In view of the above, the Unions have resolved to suspend the strike with immediate effect.
