Akufo-Addo has not ordered us to recall 14 dismissed students – GES

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted claims indicating President Akufo-Addo has ordered them to with immediate effect recall the 14 bared and dismissed final year Senior High School, students.
The Service in a statement dated Friday, August 7, 2020, announced the dismissal of some 14 final year Senior High School students for their misconduct and indiscipline acts in the ongoing national examination.
However, some bloggers and online news portals the Ghana Education Service (GES) has described ‘fake’ has published that His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered the Service to immediately recall the punished students.
The fake news portals in a post said: “it has reliably been informed that President Akufo-Addo has taken notice of the decision by the Ghana Education Education but has directed a review of the decision”.
It added that “a source at the Presidency, despite the gravity of the offence by the students does not want their education to be truncated”
The site further claimed, “President wants the GES to find an alternative punishment for the students instead of barring them from the ongoing West African Certificate Examination (WASSCE)”.
But, the Ghana Education Service (GES) when contacted by GeorgeWeb has denied such claims, adding that their decision to dismiss and bared the notorious final year students was authorized by the Ministry of Education (MoE) under the auspices of the Government of Ghana.
The Management of the Education Service, therefore, entreats members of the general public to treat such false publications circulating on various social media platforms as false, the President has not and will not say that.
