GNACOPS to launch Private schools Teacher Training College – Ghana

The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) says it will soon launch Private schools teacher training college – Ghana (PSSTC) to train unlicensed teachers in private schools to be professionals.

According to the Council, about 80% of teachers in various private schools across the country are not licensed or have not gone to teacher training college.

The National Teaching Council (NTC) following the percentage of unlicensed teachers has announced to phase out teachers without professional teaching licenses from all private schools in the country.

The Executive Secretary of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Christian Addai Poku in an interview disclosed that his outfit is collaborating with proprietors of private schools on a roadmap to remove unqualified teachers on their payroll.

He furthered that it will soon be impossible for private schools to employ teachers who have not written the compulsory licensure exams.

The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) in line with NTC has decided to set up the teacher training college to train and licensed the teachers.

The Executive Secretary of GNACOPS, Mr Enoch Kwesi Gyetuah in an interview with Georgeweb.org disclosed that the Council will in September this year roll out 4-year degree in International education program.

Mr Enoch Kwesi Gyetuah said the program is mandatory for all private school teachers without a teaching license particular for those who have not gone to teacher training college.

He added that the Council will hire apartment or active place (spotlight areas) in every region where a number of people will register for training.

Mr Gyetuah, when asked if there will be any fee-paying, said “there will be a fee-paying, the leadership of Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) will in due course announce the fees to be paid by a student”.
