NTC explains why it withheld certificate of some first batch of candidates who sat for licensure exam

The NTC says at least 50 candidates among the first batch who sat for the teacher licensure examination in 2018 certificate had been withheld because they were not eligible to sit for the exams even though passed.
An NTC official speaking in an interview monitored by Georgeweb.org explained that the National Teaching Council (NTC) at that time did not have accurate details of the teachers from the Colleges of Education.
He said the Teaching Council considering the situation allowed every interested applicant to register but in his or her own discretion and that made majority of unqualified applicants registered and sat for the exams.
According to the Executive Secretary of the NTC, it was after the release of the results that all the training institutions submitted the data of qualified teachers eligible to sit for the examination to the National Teaching Council.
Mr Christian Addai Poku further said the management of the Teaching Council (NTC) after going through the data decided not to award certificate to any unqualified candidate even if the person passed the licensure exams.
“They should have completed College of Education or studied education in university before being eligible to register and sit for the Ghana teacher licensure examination (GTLE) in 2018”, the NTC Secretary noted.
He continued that the NTC now has the necessary data from all the training institutions adding that before one will be eligible to write the exams, his or her training institution will have to submit details to the NTC for approval.
