The Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as has announced some 11 teachers allowances included in the Collective Agreement signed between the teacher unions and the government.
The Collective Agreement after year’s of delay was finally signed on August 2020 between the teacher unions on behalf of all registered teachers in the country and the Government of Ghana (GoG).
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh in his address at the third 2020 Ghana Teacher Prize event at the University of Cape Coast stated that the Akufo-Addo government can never repay the debt it owes to teachers, adding that “but that we have a duty to try to make life better for them”.
The Education Minister commenting on August 2020 signed Collective Agreement which guarantees the Conditions of Service of teachers in the country listed the below 11 teachers allowances.
Included in this are the following allowances;
• Vehicle Maintenance Allowance
• Kilometric Allowance
• Night Allowance
• Allowance for teachers in deprived and difficult areas
• Retention Allowance
• Protective Clothing Allowance
• Advance to purchase means of transport
• Salary Advance
• Special Allowance
• Transfer Grant
• Permanent Posting Allowance
