The Education Minister commended Prof. (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson on her recent appointment as the first and new Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, and extended his compliments to the other new members of the Council.
Dr Matthew Opoku said, “their appointments come at a crucial point in the country’s tertiary landscape in light of the peculiar circumstances in which this Ghana, and indeed the world, finds itself at present”.
“As Council members, they are generally required by law to ensure the implementation of the aims of the University, determine their strategic direction and monitor and evaluate policy implementation, promote income-generating activities as part of the University’s programme; control the finances of the University and determine the allocation and proper use of funds”, the Education Minister added.
He furthered that “It is the expectation of Government that the council’s leadership would not be one that only identifies problems but also proposes workable solutions”.
