Government considering free tertiary education – Akufo-Addo

His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after introducing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) has said his government is considering the implementation of free tertiary education in the country.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the greatest investment to make in a country is to invest in the citizenry, consequently his decision to invest in the education of the people of Ghana.
“What I’ve realised is that countries that are leading in development began by investing in the education of their people and that helped a lot,” he said on Kumasi-based Wontumi 101.3 FM.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, the rate of school dropout because of financial difficulties was a major bother to him, hence he decided to save the situation.
To save the situation, the Akufo-Addo government after assuming office in September 2017 introduced the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) to make quality education accessible to every qualified Ghanaian child at the Secondary level with no cost.
Speaking further, His Excellency hinted that his government is considering the introduction of free tertiary education in addition to the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) which has seen many Ghanaian children get their secondary education free of cost.
“I don’t want to give a timeline but I’m sure it’s possible,” he said.
“For now what has been put in place is a system where students at the tertiary level are provided loans while in school to help them cater for their needs but we’re considering free Tertiary education too,” he added.
