The Ghanaian politician who suggested the double-track system to President Akufo-Addo has said the implementation of the system has increased contact or instructional hours in schools in the country.
The Akufo-Addo led government after implementing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) in September 2017 later introduced the double-track system to contain the enormous enrollment in Senior High Schools.
The Deputy Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum speaking on Joy PM Express said the gold and green track system despite its academic break has increased the instructional hours for teachers to complete all syllabus.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in the interview admitted that even though the current double-track system comes with academic breaks but told host of the PM Express show that education is not about days but rather hours.
“So when you are able to compensate for the lost in days with an increase in hours in such a way that instead of 1,80 you are offering 1,34 teachers now have an opportunity to complete their syllabus earlier”, Dr Adutwum stated.
