Mr. Samuel Addai Agyekum has reportedly closed down Dwenti Senior High School (SHS), a private school in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region for flouting the government’s outlined COVID-19 safety protocols.
Reports indicate that the Headmaster of the Dwenti Senior High School have also been arrested.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr. Samuel Addai Agyekum, directed for the closure of the school and allegedly arrested the school headmaster and proprietor during a monitoring exercise by the COVID-19 Response Team with the District Security Council on Saturday, 11 July 2020.
According to the DCE, the school authorities had ignored the directive by President Akufo-Addo to ensure that dormitories and classrooms are not decongested to secure the safety of students.
Following reports that the school had disregarded the COVID-19 protocols the students were screened.
Mr Samuel Addai Agyekum said arrangements are underway to move some of the students to a new accommodation facility which has been secured to ensure that the school’s dormitories are not overcrowded.
He explained that the move was to ensure that the students were safe to write their final examination sucesfully without contracting the deadly novel coronavirus.
Students and staff of the school have petitioned the District Chief Examination to release the headmaster and proprietor.
