Among the oldest and greatest schools in Ghana is Adisadel College which is 110 years today. The school was established on the 4th of January 1910.

History of Adisadel College
Adisadel College is one one of Ghana’s the oldest established educational institutions in Africa for children at Cape Coast
It was opened on the 4th. The typical English Public high school was built in January 1910.
The initial name of the school was the grammar school of the S.P.G. (Society for the Propagation of the Gospel) Grammar School.
It was later transformed into St. Nicholas ‘ Grammar School and eventually became Adisadel College after being moved to Adisadel on the fringes of Ghana’s Cape Coast.
The school was founded in the Cape Coast, near Christ Church and the castle, in the year 1910. The school started in a humble story building at Topp Yard.
Over the 110 tears of this great school, a lot has changed from its humble beginning. The second cycle school commenced with just twenty-nine (29) students in 1910
The school’s population rose in 1935 to about 200 boys when it turned 25.
The Golden Jubilee year of the school in 1960 recorded nearly two thousand (2000), students in 2018.
The founder of the school was the Right Reverend Dr. Nathaniel Temple Hamlyn of the Anglican Church.
His objective was to provide Anglican parents ‘ children with educational opportunities for the grammar type in the establishment of the School.
In particular, it aimed at providing a training ground for well-equipped staff for the work of the Church.
Msgr. Hamlyn amply realized his goal, immortalizing himself in the School’s annals.
The past 110 years of the school have been filled with remarkable heights of achievement in academics and sports.
Today, Adisadel College is 110yrs and it is the country’s second-oldest secondary school in Ghana. It is acclaimed at one of the rare famous second cycle schools in sub-Saharan Africa after Mfantsipim School the first secondary school to be established in Ghana by the Methodist Church in 1876.
